News for the Week of November 12, 2008

Rick’s Writin’s
Rick is at the Portland Comic Book Show today. Why aren’t you there?

Paula’s Picks
It’s a shame that Rick is in Portland today because there’s lots to talk about!
We’re getting in a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 trade paperback. This is volume 3 titled Wolves at the Gate. Buffy and her crew are attacked in Scotland and go out to find the attackers and the only one that can help them is Dracula and the only one that can bring him out is Xander. I thought the Dracula episode on the series was hilarious! It was great to see Dracula and Xander back together again.
Fables #78 comes out this week. It focuses on a mysterious box and its travels from the former Empire and back to Fabletown. Mysteries abound! We’re also getting a Fables: Covers by James Jean hardcover. This large book contains covers of Fables by James Jean including annotations and vellum sheets.
Who’s been waiting for the next part of Old Man Logan? You have? Well, the wait is over! Wolverine #69 finally ships this week! It continues the story of Logan and Hawkeye’s dangerous trek across future apocalyptic USA.
Kevin Smith is coming out with a new Batman mini-series called Cacophony. It features a Kevin Smith creation: Onomatopoeia. He really likes to put out things with hard to pronounce words. This 3-part mini-series has art by Walt Flanagan. It’s been a while since Kevin Smith has put out any comic books, so it’s nice to see him back! Also from DC, we’re getting the JSA Kingdom Comic Special: Superman #1. This book is written and drawn by Alex Ross. It continues the storyline “One World, Under Gog” that wraps up in JSA #22. We’re also getting a Watchmen hardcover. This book is in the standard size of the regular Watchmen, but has a nice hard cover and features new colors by John Higgins.
Stephen King takes over the shelves this week with Dark Tower: Treachery #3 and The Stand: Captain Trips #2.
We are also finally getting a JLA/Avengers trade paperback. You may remember this series from about 3 years ago. This is the first time this popular story has been collected.
Yesterday, I went shopping with Amanda; some of you may know her. We spent 7 hours shopping. 7 hours! I usually hate to shop, but I have fun hanging out with her. I got some new shoes. They are pretty cool. They're by a company called Simple and they're made from recycled and environmentally friendly materials: car tires, inner tubes, organic cotton, etc. They are so comfortable! The most comfortable shoes I've ever had. They also have tire treads on the bottom. Neato!
