News for the Week of October 29, 2008
Rick’s Writin’s
Rick is currently without a computer. Well, he has one he just can’t
use. Actually, he just can use his monitor. But really it’s his
desk.
This all started out with
him deciding to buy the game Spore. His video card couldn’t handle
it, so he bought a new computer (with a large flat screen monitor). He
finally gets is home and finds out that his monitor is too big for his
desk.
So, today, he’s completely
re-arranging his computer. All so he can play Spore before Christmas!
Paula’s Picks
Halloween is almost upon us and I’m starting to get excited. I hope
my neighborhood gets plenty of trick or treaters. I’ve got some
hope since someone across the way from me has a Bates Hotel sign in front
of their front door. I also wanted to remind everyone about our art contest.
Entries are due by the end of the day next Sunday and voting will start
that Wednesday. The theme is current events. Rick still hasn’t decided
on the prize yet, but I’m guessing gift certificates will be involved
for some of the prizes. The theme is “Current Events Comic Style”
and you just need to draw it on a backer board. We’ve got a couple
of entries, but I’m hoping to see more come in this week!
It’s a big week this
week! We’re getting the new Previews and Wizard and I guess the
publishers figure that it’s a great week to ship all of their books
as well.
Hellboy in the Chapel of Moloch
is a new Hellboy story written and drawn by Mike Mignola. He hasn’t
drawn a Hellboy story in 3 years! This story is self-contained and should
be good!
We’re getting the Nemi
Volume 2 this week. I’m surprised at how well the first volume sold.
I’m going to have to start reading it since you seem to know something
I don’t about it. All I know is it’s a comic strip about a
Norwegian goth girl by Lisa Myhre.
From DC, we’re getting
in a few highly anticipated books. We’re getting in the Joker hardcover
book. This original graphic novel is written by Brian Azzarello with art
by Lee Bermejo. This story follows the Joker as he is admitted (again)
into Arkham Asylum. There’s a split among his fellow inmates and
Joker is looking for a way to take advantage of the split and take over
leadership of them all. We’re also getting Final Crisis: Rage of
the Red Lanterns #1. This 2 issues story is a prelude to the “Blackest
Night” story coming up. The Red Lanterns feed off of anger and hate
and they’re looking to get some revenge on Sinestro. In Superman
Batman #53, Superman’s powers are transferred to Batman and in Justice
League of America #26 it’s Vixen versus spider god, Anasi.
From Marvel, we’re getting
Astonishing X-Men Ghost Boxes #1. This story is written and drawn by Astonishing
X-Men’s current creative team (Warren Ellis and Simone Bianchi).
It focuses on Subject X and what role he will play in the current Astonishing
X-Men storyline. Also from Marvel, we’re getting in the newest issue
of Thor #11 written by J. Michael Straczynski with art by Olivier Coipel
and Amazing Spider-Man #575 written by Joe Kelly with art by Chris Bachalo. |
